So what is Saber Skills?

Using a combination of real martial arts (FMA - Filipino Martial Arts /HEMA - Historical European Martial Arts), stage fighting and tricks with high quality ‘Stunt’ Sabers. You can expect a fun and friendly environment where you will be guided through clear, easy to learn techniques with our highly qualified (4th Dan) instructor. Each session grows into a comprehensive understanding and skill, of not only how to use a saber but also in performing amazing tricks, and learning practical self-defence skills.

Using a Saber

Saber Skills uses real sword fighting and martial arts principles that will help you grow from a novice to a master of the Saber.

Starting with basic strikes, parries and tricks, your skills will build allowing for more complex techniques that will have everyone wishing they could do the same.

Using our durable polycarbonate Sabers, means controlled duelling is possible, and as your skills and confidence grow, the more complex and amazing the duels can be. For those already training in a martial art you will learn concepts and techniques that will complement your training in a fun and informative way.

Stage Fighting

Ever watched a fight scene in a movie and thought ‘how do they do that’ well now’s your chance to find out.

The integration of stage fighting into the Saber Skills curriculum allows for more dynamic and safer use of the Saber. You will learn how to look like the the most dangerous fighter in town without anyone actually getting hurt, how viewing angles affect what the audience sees and how to choreograph an exciting fight scene. Using these lessons you will be able to freely ‘fight’ without fear of being hit whilst also looking good doing it.

Tricks

I’m not sure it’s possible to pick up a Saber and not want to swing and twirl it about.

At Saber Skills we know how important being able to spin, twirl and basically become a whirlwind of Saber fury is to be a true Saber Master. Saber Skills will take you through easy to follow steps for each technique and as your skills grow these will flow together giving you total control of your Saber.

Fitness

As with all activities that make you smile, they never seem like exercise.

Saber Skills is an innovative way to stay active, we ask everyone to work to their own limits, the main aim is to have fun. Each activity can be tailored to your fitness level, although once you pick up a Saber it’s difficult to put back down.
